What is an Abundance Mindset?

In Steven Covey’s words, an abundance mindset is when, “a person believes there are enough resources and successes to share with others.” While the concept of scarcity thinking focuses on what we don’t have, an abundance mindset focuses on what we do have and on growth and opportunities.

My opening quote from Wayne Dyer encourages us to change the way we look at things. When you switch your mindset to focus on positivity and abundance, your perceptions change and you see the positivity and abundance.

For example, if you focus on your lack of money, then this is what you see. On the other hand, if you focus on the abundance and possibilities around you to make more money, then your world shifts to an abundance mentality. The more you practice, the more obvious it becomes why cultivating this mindset is so important.

The Importance of Cultivating Abundance

Once you experience the benefits of having an abundance mindset, you’ll never want to go back. Changing your mindset to focus on abundance allows you to not only live a fuller, more satisfying life, but to also feel inspired, creative, and more at ease.

Overall, you just feel happier.

1. Practice Gratitude… everyday

Practicing gratitude is the most important way to increase your abundance mindset. Numerous studies confirm the power gratitude has to rewire your brain. Your gratitude practice is simple: find five things each day you’re grateful for and write them down.

Whether it’s in a fancy journal, a small pocket notebook, or even a sticky note on your computer screen, your gratitude list helps cultivate appreciation, kindness, and positivity. Do your best to come up with new items every day. If you get stuck, you can always list the basics: a functioning car, clean air, or a hot cup of coffee.

2. Become Aware

Start becoming more aware of your negative thoughts and comments. Common phrases, such as, “I can’t do this because…” or “If only I had…” are limiting and create a scarcity mindset. People with an abundance mindset recognize that positive thought impacts the outcome. Do your thoughts create opportunities or do they limit you?

 When you recognize a negative or limiting thought, turn it around. Think or say the things that you can do or of what you have that could lead to inspiration. Abundance affirmations are helpful tools that improve problem-solving skills and relieve stress and anxiety.

3. Don’t be afraid to ask for help

The path to abundance isn’t always easy, but it’s available to everyone. Not everyone chooses to take that path because it requires taking a trip inside yourself to understand what really holds you back. Sometimes this requires a little help.
